The Washing Memorabilia

the rhythm of life

As you will have gathered by now, we appreciate Crimea Street Films for giving us memories of a world now gone.To express that, each month we put together a small collection of items that celebrate those times and the people who lived them. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

The PuristWhen it’s time for a brew, The Purist comes into its own and delivers with simple efficiency.None of your Fancy Dan stuff here but instead straight sides you can believe in, a handle you actually grip and, at 11oz, just the right size. Most people here have one with their favourite film on and there are some, like Ron, who have every single one because of his admiration for the dye sublimation print process.A stalwart of kitchen cupboards and committee meetings alike. If you'd like one of your own, you know what to do.

The DrinkerIf you've ever had a cack-handed neighbour round for tea or, like our Keith, you tend to mix alcohol with your antibiotics, you'll know how easily tables get marked. Not any more though with this set of two coasters.Thoughtfully designed, they ensure the formica stays in tiptop condition.

The MaverickPicture yourself in a freezing cold office in 1973 when, just as the kettle is boiling, who should walk in but Arnold.“I’ve brought my own mug in today”, he announces to the room and mouths go slack as they watch his black mug transform before their very eyes.He was never one to follow the crowd and, rather than pick ’n’ mix, always preferred sardines when at the pictures.A man ahead of his time and now that little bit of magic is available to all of us.

The TravellerPostcards to us mean travel. Imagine a long sandy beach, lush vegetation and the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore as the sun beats down. There is no doubt that Lytham St Annes is a wonderful place to spend some time and these postcards, which come as a set of ten, are equally lovely.Evocative of the era, they are printed on thick and tactile Mohawk paper and can be used for decoration, keepsakes and even communication. There are still one or two of us who insist that a proper postcard through the letterbox beats an email every time.

The GourmandHave you ever had one of those rare days when a Wigan Kebab just doesn't cut the mustard? It's the perfect time to impress your partner and rustle up something tasty in the comfort of your own home. And nothing says "competent" more than doing your prep on one of these elegant glass boards.Attractive, practical and reassuringly easy to wipe clean should your culinary ambitions get the better of you.

Collectors' Editions

From the studios of Yard & Ginnel

We have a young and enthusiastic member to thank for bringing us online in 2026 after 53 years of doing everything by post. Coincidentally, he was born just before the final Crimea Street film was released.Jon runs an art collective and we are delighted that he is working with us to bring some remarkable pieces to life. Each month, new work will be available for a limited time before making way for the next collection four weeks later. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

The FaithfulMost people agree that Reg Baines was a true artist and his bold poster designs became almost as familiar as the films themselves. Many of us can still remember seeing them outside our local picture house. Now Brian Astley has faithfully reproduced them, even keeping to the original 22 x 28 inch format and carefully matching the colours of Reg's work. The only concession to modern times, which we hope Reg would have approved of, is that they are printed on museum-quality paper and intended to be cherished as much as the films they celebrate.

The InterpretationNot everyone sees the world in quite the same way and Olive James has always had an eye for finding something new in the familiar.Inspired by the people, places and stories of Crimea Street Films, she has created a series of bold interpretations that celebrate the originals whilst confidently striking out in their own direction.Produced as striking 40 x 60 inch framed canvases, these are not pieces intended to hide in the background. They were created to make a statement and to become part of the rooms in which they hang.

The OriginalThese fine art pieces are remarkable.Using the finest materials and individually framed and glazed to an exceptional standard, these substantial editions were created for those who appreciate craftsmanship as much as the stories that inspired them. These original works are intended to capture the imagery and atmosphere of a moment from the films and to be enjoyed for generations to come.
